Behind every immaculate shower, perfectly aligned large-format tile, and long-lasting flooring installation at Southwest Flooring & Tile is owner-operator Alex Kazanovich. With over a decade of hands-on experience in the tile industry, Alex founded Southwest Flooring & Tile on a simple yet unyielding core philosophy: focus on quality over quantity. Rather than rushing through jobs or relying on volume-driven turnover, Alex takes a hands-on, detail-oriented approach to every home transformation in Sarasota, Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch, Venice, Parrish, and surrounding coastal Florida communities.
Academic Foundation & Trade Mastery
Alex’s journey into professional craftsmanship began with a dedicated pursuit of education and practical problem-solving. He earned his Associate degree from Middlesex County College, where he honed his critical thinking, communication, and business analytical skills. Recognizing early on that high-end craftsmanship requires technical precision as much as artistic vision, Alex paired his college background with elite trade certifications.
A key cornerstone of Alex’s professional expertise is his factory training with Schluter Systems—the global gold standard in tile installation, waterproofing, and substrate management. Through rigorous factory coursework and hands-on practice, Alex mastered the physics and chemistry of wet-area construction. This specialized training enables Southwest Flooring & Tile to offer advanced uncoupling, waterproofing, and drainage solutions that protect coastal homes from moisture intrusion, structural shift, and premature wear.
Specialized Expertise: High-End Tile & Waterproofing Systems
In Florida's humid climate, tile is far more than a decorative surface—it is a critical barrier protecting your home’s structural integrity. Alex’s primary area of expertise lies in complex bathroom remodeling, wet-area waterproofing, and high-precision tile installations, including modern large-format tiles.
What sets Alex apart in the tile industry is his standard for what goes on behind the surface. A tile job is only as reliable as the waterproofing assembly underneath it. By utilizing integrated vapor-tight membranes, properly sloped shower basins, and uncoupling technologies, Alex ensures that every custom shower, kitchen floor, or patio space is built to resist mold, mildew, and water leaks for decades. Whether laying expansive porcelain slabs in open-concept living rooms or crafting intricate mosaic patterns in luxury walk-in showers, Alex ensures every seam, grout line, and edge transition meets flawless standards.
A Personal Touch & Dedication to Community
As a locally owned and operated contractor, Alex believes that building strong relationships with homeowners is just as essential as building durable floors. When you work with Southwest Flooring & Tile, you work directly with a trade craftsman who values open communication, clean work sites, and transparent expectations.
Alex also takes great pride in supporting those who serve the community. Under his leadership, Southwest Flooring & Tile offers dedicated discount programs for first responders and military veterans as a tangible token of gratitude for their service.
Life Beyond Tile: Water, Boating, and Family
When he isn't on a job site measuring layouts or installing custom waterproof showers, Alex fully embraces the Florida lifestyle. Living on the sun-soaked Gulf Coast, he has a passion for spending time on the water. An avid boating enthusiast, Alex spends his weekends navigating local waterways, exploring coastal islands, and relaxing on the bay.
Above all, family is Alex’s main anchor. Whether enjoying a day out on the boat together or relaxing at home, quality time with family provides the balance and motivation behind his work ethic. His deep love for the water and strong family ties give him a personal connection to the coastal living lifestyle that so many of his clients seek to create within their own homes.
